Parks make for a means for the residents of a city to connect with the city on a personal and intimate level beyond their homes or offices. Memories are made, relaxation achieved and even friendships are kindle in parks and public areas that allow people to come in sit down, relax, have a picnic, and generally have a fun, nice time.

Parks also allow visitors and tourists to experience and see the city in connection with its people. Parks are like a museum of people, where you as a visitor are a part of the show.

When in Accra, Ghana, here are some of the parks in Accra where one can have a great time in.

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park needs to description to Ghanaians. And even none Ghanaians who have read or know to some extent about points of interests in Accra, Ghana should be able to immediatley recognize the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The Park is about 5 acres big and is host to the mausoleum and museum in honor of Kwame Nkrumah. Neatly kept and with beautiful landscaping, The Kwame Nkrumah Park is filled with history. The guides in the park are as eager to show you round the museum and the grounds of the park as they are knowledgeable in the history and cultures of Ghana.

Perfect for hosting weddings, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations and the likes, Crystal Park in East Legon is an amazing well kept space for such events and many more that you may think of. The scenery is completely transformed at night, with lights making it even more beautiful. So if you are thinking of an outdoor movie and games night with friends, colleagues or family members, Crystal Park is a great option.

Legon Botanical Gardens

Legon Botanical Garden is a garden of “international repute”. The botanical garden was created to improve eco-tourism efforts in Ghana. Activities that one can partake in at the Legon Botanical Gardens include the High Rope Course, Canoeing, Canopy Walk, and Bird Watching. There is no shortage of area in the woodlands for picnicking and gathering of friends and family. The Legon Botanical Garden also has a Children’s playground area with fun rides and play rides and installations for children.

Efua Sutherland Children’s Park

The Efua Sutherland Park is one of the largest parks in Accra. Located in the city center, and in proximity to the National Theatre and the Ministries zone, The Efua Sutherland Children’s Park is perfect for the escape from the hustle and bustle in the surrounding high rise buildings in Accra. While originally meant as a Childrens Park, Efua Sutherland Park is also a good place to host parties, and a get-together. The draw back however is that you may have to bring your own canopies and chairs if you book the place for an event.

Managed and run by the Mmofra Foundation, which is committed to opening the world of children through ideas, books and art, Mmofra Park is a safe and conducive space for kids and adults alike to come in and get entwined in nature, while basking in the solace and silence of the park in a well deserved escape from the surrounding city life. Mmofra Park is a great place to indulge in Yoga and any other meditation activity, kids can play football, basketball, play on the swings and rides.
